The Contra Anniversary Collection brings back this classic game to modern platforms and a new player era. Contra is a successful sci-fi action video game series created by the Konami company, in 1987. The series premiered in the arcade, but was best known for its breakthrough port to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988, which became one of the system’s most popular and best selling platformers of all time.
If you’re searching for some best emulated version of the classic arcade games along with Contra’s 8 and 16-bit renditions from the series, this collection does a nice job of providing you all that in one location together. Also nice to have is the Contra’s Famcom version and the European Probotector entries are a fun little curiosity. The digital book also includes a bonus, giving an overview of the various entries of the series, with details on every game created, early concept art, map designs graphics and technical fans of the series. This includes an extraordinary in-game digital book.
There are 5 different games in 10 specific skins in this “bundle” or “collection.” Contra’s three new versions are: Arcade, Famicom and NES. 2 Super C versions. Also known as Super Contra or Contra 2 variants. 2 Contra 3 variants: Alien Wars, 2 Contra versions: Hard Corps and Operation Contra.
The Anniversary Collection allows you to save your progress whenever you want, so you don’t need to restart the whole game when you die at the last stage. It also allows you to view playthrough replays, but it will erase replays whenever you load a prior save.
Performance On PC
Contra Anniversary Collection PC Game Runs pretty smooth on my old cheap computer without screen tearing or sound problems, the key binding is awful but I have no complaints besides. Any people who say that these matches were brutally tough and even impossible, clearly didn’t play them in the past or have forgotten the days that games had been enjoyable, but yes those games were tough and unforgiving, they’re highly rewarding and satisfied once you’ve got the key. You will be happy to play the Contra on your PC. It’s a dream come true.
Graphics: Diligently emulated, although there are still weird translucent lines across the display. Congratulations to recreate the Dot Matrix display of GameBoy. The roms of Probotector have choices for refresh rates of 50 Mhz (original) or 60 Mhz (converted to NTSC standard).
Sound: Really good, sound and effects matched the action well at all times. Keep in mind that with any limitations to that hardware, M2 emulates the initial hardware. One concern I have is that they have NOT emulated the Super Contra (arcade) speech chip.
Control: Great. Contra still had strict controls that perfectly translate to my PC’s keyboard. For most of the games, the first update added control customisation
Contra Anniversary Collection for PC is one of the finest side scrolling shooters of video games in the gilded era. With the classics Konami released on modern outlet, you can’t go wrong. I grew up with the original Contra, Super Contra and Contra 3 so I’m happy to be able to ease those moments when I was a kid. The only thing I wish for the collection would have complete controller assistance rather than partial control which implies you need a one-controller xbox on a PC which is what I’m using. Apart from that, it’s a great game and it works very well on PC, no lag feels like the initial systems right here! If you’re true to the initial shooter as a classic then that’s for you.
